MECHANICAL ENGINEERING (COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN)

Infrastructure Mechanical Engineering (CAD)

Mechanical engineering branch is located in Prasad polytechnic, Jaunpur. The Department of Mechanical Engineering (CAD) was established in the year 2009. The department has an intake of 60 students. The department has big classroom & well equipped laboratory & library.

HOD’S Message

Welcome to Department of Mechanical Engineering (CAD) was established in 2009. The Department seeks to combine excellence in education with service to the industry. Our goal is to provide students with a balance of theoretical and practical experiences that enable them to serve a variety of societal needs. We are having hard-working students, young and dynamic faculties. The objective of the department is to prepare students for a successful career in Industry. Mechanical engineering department provides students with a sound foundation in the mathematical, scientific and engineering fundamentals necessary to formulate, solve and analyze engineering problems and to prepare them for higher studies.

Laboratory of Mechanical Engineering Department

We have following laboratories.

Applied Mechanics Laboratory

This Laboratory deals with basic concepts of mechanics like laws of forces, moments, friction, centre of gravity, laws of motion and simple machines which are required by the students for further understanding of other allied subjects. This laboratory enhances the analytical ability of the students. This lab is offered for the first-year students of Mechanical engineering, and Civil Engineering.

Engineering Drawing Laboratory

The engineering Drawing lab helps and guides the students to learn how the technical drawings can be drawn by different methods.
It introduces the students to a specific language of engineers which is the graphical language. It is universally accepted and used by engineers to develop and record their ideas and express them to others for execution.
The Engineering Drawing lab will help the students in many ways from drawing images, describing the shape, size, and colour and finally constructing any engineering object. It teaches them some different skills such as ability to read and prepare engineering drawings, ability to make free – hand sketching of objects, Power to imagine, analyses and communicate, and capacity to understand.

Mechanics of solids laboratory

Mechanics of solid laboratory is well equipped with destructive testing machineries. This lab is offered for the second-year students of mechanical engineering. Students will be able to understand the basic concepts of mechanics of solid and enable to apply them to practical problems in this laboratory. Different types of tests are conducted in this laboratory for mechanical properties of various materials such as Young’s Modulus, Shear Modulus, Hardness, Toughness, Stiffness, etc. Many students of Final year are utilizing this laboratory for their project works for testing of various materials like composite materials, ferrous and nonferrous alloys, etc.

Thermal engineering laboratory

Thermodynamics is the branch of physical science that deals with the relations between heat and other forms of energy (such as mechanical, electrical, or chemical energy), and, by extension, of the relationships between all forms of energy. Thermodynamics lab courses often include laboratory components. Traditionally these are demonstration labs where students collect and analyze data from a preconfigured experimental apparatus. The lab focusses on the concepts of Thermodynamics and investigates the parameters by using pressure gauges for heat transfer analysis and study of Boiler efficiency.
It also includes the study of 2 stroke and 4 stroke engine models.

Hydraulics laboratory

The Objective of this laboratory is to understand the key concept related to fluid kinematics and dynamics and how they are related to and applied to everyday life. This laboratory explain the concept related to Bernoulli’s Equations, principal of water hammer, application of Reynold’s Number, Losses in the pipe when fluid flow in it, operations involve in turbineand pump etc. In the laboratory we determine the fluid flow parameters such as velocity and discharge.

The lab focusses on determining the pressure difference between two pipe, speed and power obtained.

Metrology laboratory

Metrology is the science of measurement. Students in this laboratory are responsible for ensuring process and quality control by making measurements and carrying out inspection of various parameters. The aim of this laboratory is to develop knowledge and skills regarding various measuring instruments amongst the students.

CAD laboratory

In CAD lab students learn to use the computers to create, modify, do analysis, and optimization of a design.

CAD may be used to design curves and figures in two-dimensional (2D) space; or curves, surfaces, and solids in three-dimensional (3D) space.

CAD is used to accomplish preliminary design and layouts, design details and calculations, creating 3-D models, creating and releasing drawings, as well as interfacing with analysis, marketing, manufacturing, and end-user personnel.

CAD lab has the latest computer system with 2D and 3D software installed. This lab helps to provide the proper guidance to students to make accurate and precise drawings using CAD software/

Mechanical Workshop

Mechanical workshop is a place where skills can be developed. The areas such as fitting, carpentry, welding, machining, black smithy, pattern making, foundry etc. can help students to check their theoretical knowledge learnt in classroom. Mechanical workshop is a place in which students can convert any material from one form to another form with help of machines & tools.
